Blu ray/DVD/CD writer selectively reading discs

I have a Sony Vaio vpcf136fm and it no longer reads DVD discs or Blu-Rays I originally thought this a hardware issue, however, the drive will read music CD's, cd-rom discs, DVD writable discs and some old DVD discs, i.e. it will read the discs of for the Witcher but not the discs for the Witcher 2.
