According to this (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19298222.aspx?PageIndex=1) thread a Dell Inspiron 1501 can support upto 4GB of RAM (possibly 8GB)
On Dell's official website it says the maximum it can support is 2GB but I believe it can support more, they may not have tested for more.
