nothing appears when typing

Hi, I awoke this morning to find that nothing appears on the monitor when I type. This happens across all applications. I substituted a wired keyboard for my Logitech wireless and got the same result. The strange thing is that if I open Notepad, for example, type something in and go to exit Notepad it prompts me to save what I've entered even though nothing appears on the screen. The only thing...
